Welcome to the Ivory Tower

University life can be daunting. For some, it is the first time they have to worry about getting through daily life on their own. Cooking a bowl of spaghetti, eating it in front of the telly, turning up to the right seminar at the right time … university life as a student is full of milestones.

But what does university life look like from the other side – from inside the ivory tower? Do professors have two months of summer holiday when there are no lectures? Are there philosophical debates about one’s ontological outlook at the coffee machine? What is it like to write a PhD – and how can one survive it?

This blog is for anyone who is curious to have a look behind the scenes in a very special industry. But especially if you are considering a career in academia, this blog might give you some insight into what it is like to actually work in an environment that has an entirely different meaning for its various inhabitants of students, administrative staff, lecturers, professors and student support teams. So come on in, enter the ivory tower…..and make yourself feel at home.
